Design a combination padlock, which can be easily and quickly unlocked with one hand with limited visibility and dexterity.
My Role
With a team of designers and engineers we worked to develop this revolutionary product. I was the third designer to work on this product. I finessed and fine-tuned the overall design with my focus on the “button”. and front face. I worked on the ergonomics and intuitiveness of the product, observed users interact with the lock and developed the specific geometry required to function the directional motion of the mechanism.

Speed Dial can be opened using directional up, down, left, and right movements. The lock can be used one-handed and without looking at the lock. This makes it ideal for visually impaired consumers and those with limited dexterity. Speed Dial is the fastest combination padlock on the market. It utilizes your muscle memory, which is much stronger than you alphanumeric memory. This makes it much easier for the user to remember their code.
The combination can be reset to any number of movements in any sequence, allowing the user to customize their combination.

The traditional combination lock is almost impossible to decipher and use with a vision impairment. The Speed Dial lock, however has no symbols to read. It can be unlocked simply, by the feel without seeing the lock.
